It is with regret that that we bring you the news that Geoff Holmes our chairman for some 15 years passed away at home last night (2nd November) after a relatively short illness.
Geoff will be remembered by club members, new and old, as someone who, with Denise, enjoyed the banter of the players and ‘crowd’ no matter whether Fernhurst were winning or taking a battering. During a weekend of cricket he would score, tell an amusing tale or two, hold a conversation about the state of the village or country, pop off to help Diane with the tea and promenade around the boundary with whoever fancied a walk.
Geoff become Chairman of the club at a time when the club was going through tough times, not many players and only Sunday matches being played. He steered the club through the rough patch; supporting the initiative to join the I’Anson League and have the club look at itself critically. He leaves Fernhurst with an able Saturday XI, that is looking forward to a good 2012 season and a Sunday XI that has had one of its best seasons for ages. The club is in rude health.
At this time our thoughts are with Denise, Simon and Rebecca.
Thank you Geoff. We will miss you.
